Beginner Obedience Classes
Command Dog Training
We offer Group obedience classes. Puppies must have completed their vaccination series in order to attend this class. A dog is never too old, but they could be too young, so we recommend they be close to 5 months of age and up. If you're not sure, your veterinarian may be able to advise you.
The basic commands of Heel, Sit-Stay, Come and Down-Stay are essential for a dog's well-being and for his participation in society. A dog that does what he is told and knows his role will be a happier and more useful pet, and you'll both have more fun!
$100 SIX WEEK BEGINNER PLUS PROGRAM (6 weeks of basic + 1 advanced class) starts the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30 PM. Cash or personal checks are accepted, no credit cards. Please arrive 15 minutes early for registration.
Our goal in training is not to have a robot, but an intelligent and alert companion that responds in a cheerful, reliable manner. Class is both educational and entertaining, so stop by any evening, observe and ask any questions. We're happy to "talk dogs"!
Marge Miller has been teaching group classes since 1970 with both the Ft. Lauderdale Dog Club and the German Shepherd Dog Club of Ft. Lauderdale. At the same time she was conducting private in-home training as President of Command Dog Training, Inc. Marge's approach in teaching the first half of every Beginner Obedience class is based on communicating a natural method of training and behavior modification, with methods that have been used for generations.
Debbie Bates has participated in the world of dog training since childhood, showing and training in Junior Showmanship at the age of 8 years. Having worked with several thousand dogs since 1980, she is comfortable with all breeds. Her goal in teaching the last few lessons of every Beginner class is to get both dogs and handlers ready for the advanced classes.
